Tomáš Šafárik
Crisis negotiator
He is involved in resolving high-profile incidents, particularly those involving people experiencing suicidal crisis and barricade situations. Drawing on this practical experience, he trains police officers in crisis communication and negotiation and teaches these subjects at the Department of Social Work and Social Sciences at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. He represents the Slovak Republic within the European Network of Advisory Teams (EuNAT) and has taken part in Frontex and bilateral missions across the Schengen Area. His professional interests focus on how people respond to pressure and make decisions under extreme stress, including those who support others in difficult situations. Alongside negotiation, he specializes in crisis intervention, peer support, and psychological safety, seeking to understand both people in crisis and the professionals who stand by them.
